Antarctica has the highest "average" elevation of all the continents due to the ice pack, and it has the lowest elevation of all the continents getting down to 1.5 km below sea level.
The lowest elevation of any desert area is the Dead Sea in the Middle East. Its surface and shores are 427 metres (1,401 ft) below sea level, Earth's lowest elevation on land. The highest elevation in a desert can be several thousand feet above sea level. At 4,892 metres (16,050 ft) the highest point is Mount Vinson in Antarctica.
