The plot of "Appointment with Love" by S.I. Kosher is about a young soldier who befriends a woman he found through the writings in a book given to him during boot camp. Through that friendship, he falls in love with her but she will not give him a picture of herself, saying that if his affections are real, it won't matter what she looks like. The day comes when he is to meet her, and he finds himself torn between a beautiful woman he sees in passing, and the woman who has been his friend and companion in times of war. He chooses the woman who has been his friend, only to discover the beautiful woman in passing was the one all along and she was just testing his resolve.
