The cropping (cutting) of dogs ears was originally done to prevent working dogs (the dog breeds that ear cropping is most commonly done to) from being bitten by rodents on the dogs floppy ears, which could cause infection. Most woking dogs still have their ears cropped even if they are not going to be used for work because it has become the "look" of the dog's breed.
I am going to assume that you had a Veterinarian do the ear cropping and not yourself. There are certain creams that you can put on the edges that will help to ease the itching but the best thing is to either take your dog back to the Vet who did the ear cropping or call him or her, to treat these cropped ears. Have you ever considered not cropping the ears? A lot of folks in the show world and pet world are not cropping ears anymore and the dogs look wonderful. The original reason for cropping the pitbull's ears were to help keep its ears from being grabbed or bitten while fighting.
Cropping a dog's ear is cutting a portion of the ear off. Some dogs rely on this outer ear to protect the inner ear from water and bugs and etc, so cropping this type of ear can, indeed, be bad for the dog. Hunting dogs sometimes have their ears cropped to, theoretically, protect them from animals that will grab the ear and/or to protect them from the pain and blood loss of a torn ear from running through the brush. This is about the only valid reason for cropping the ears of a dog. In most other cases, cropping is completely unneeded and even the AKC has recently ruled that lack of cropping is not a disqualification for dogs with traditionally cropped ears. A show dog should be judged by the quality of the dog, not the quality of the doctor who hacks off his ears. If you want a short-eared dog, breed short ears onto them.

Ear taping is when the ears are wrapped and bandaged into position, whereas cropping involves the surgical removal of part of all of the dog's outer ear.
The Tips Of Their Ears
After cropping, dog's ears are stitched by the veterinarian and the owner is usually supplied with pain medication to give the dog. The ears will then need daily dressing to keep them clean and in the correct position. After a few monoths they will have healed.
While it's true dogs with floppy ears can have more problems with infections in their ears cropping has nothing to do with it. Please see your vet and they will give you medication (drop form) to put in the dogs ears. Dogs ears should be cleaned every couple of weeks. You can go to a pet store or ask your vet for a Herbal flush (liquid) and put a few drops in to clean out all wax (has a fresh smell) and then add any medication after this. Only your vet can diagnose this and just like humans if the ear infections is not looked after the dog could go deaf.
Doberman Pinschers ears are naturally supposed to stay down, but to get the ears to point up you would have to crop the ears. They would have to have a surgery for the cropped ears. Ear cropping should be done by seven or eight weeks of age. The ears will have to be taped which takes four or five months till the dog can have its ears stand up without the assistance of the tape.

I don't know if it is officially illegal, but why would you do it? When cropping a dogs' ears, they're taking to the vet and put under anesthetic, so they don't feel pain.Some people chop their dogs ears off or cut them off with scissors are being very stupid; the dogs are in pain for days and the ears don't heal properly.Please, If you get your dog's ears cropped--go to a vet.Besides, if someone finds out you cut your dog's ears off you can get in deep trouble; it is considered animal cruelty.
