On a ( 1978 ) Ford 302 cubic inch V8 engine : It has Electronic Ignition , so there are no points
I'm definitely no mechanic but, i have a 1979 ford f100 with the original 302 in it and it doesn't have points.
Let me know the type of heads you are putting on the 302 and if they are 2V or 4V heads and if possible what type of vehicle was this 302 originally in. Spark plug gap for my 2V truck is .044
The point gap is ( .021 inch ) unless the engine compartment decal shows different
According to the Chilton's Collector's Edition 1972-1979 Auto Repair Manual, the 302 is a 1972 motor and the point gap is .017. The point dwell is 26-30 degrees.
The gap on the plugs is .034.

The 1975 Ford F150 4.9 L ( 300 cubic inch ) straight 6 has electronic ignition , it doesn't have points
The spark plug gap range for the non-Boss 302 is 0.032"-0.036".
