For comparing cost copper requirement is necessary

copper in 3 phase = .75(copper in single phase)

i.e. less cost in 3 phase when

1. line voltage is same

2. equal power input

3 same power loss

When the phase voltage is same & 2,3 conditions met then equal cost.

As a general rule, a 3 phase would use 1/3 the amperage of a single phase.

Variances in equipment and design would be more or less.

This change in amperage does not reflect a change in energy usage necessarily (each wire may only use deliver 1/3 the energy the single phase transformer was, but you have three of them). Unless you have significant motor load, changing from single phase to three phase will save very little energy and will cost more.

To show the difference in kWs a 10 HP motor will be used.

The single phase current for a 10 HP motor is listed as 50 amps at 230 volts. The formula for kWs single phase is I x E x pf/1000 = 50 x 230 x .9/1000 = 10350/1000 = 10.35 kw.

The three phase current for a 10 HP motor is listed as 28 amps at 230 volts. The formula for kWs three phase is I x E x 1.73 x pf/1000 = 28 x 230 x 1.73 x .9/1000 = 10027/1000 = 10.02 kWs.

How you convert the value of single phase power to value of 3 phase power?

Electric power is measured in watts. It does not matter if it is single phase or three phase. All things being equal, for the same load, the power measured in a single phase circuit or a three phase circuit, will be the same.

Is Europe ac power single phase?

In Europe they have both single phase and three phase.

Do televisions use single-phase or 3-phase power?

Answer 1: TV's use single-phase power. Answer 2: TV's use single phase power of 220 or 110 volts ac power depending on what part of the world you live in.

Can you convert a single phase power supply into a three phase stabiliser to power a home?

Houses generally run on single phase power. It would not make sense to convert single phase to three phase to run a house. Please restate the question.

What is single phase ac generator?

It's an electrical generator converting mechanical power into electrical power. The electrical power comes out in the form of single-phase alternating current.

How do you connected 3 phase motor to single phase power?

Use VFD to make 3 phase from single phase source.

How do you connect 3 phase inverter to single phase supply?

It depends on the 3 phase inverter. If it is a 3 phase input then you will first need to get a single phase to 3 phase converter to simulate a 3 phase supply, if that is what this particular inverter is intended for then you will have a label saying 230v primary with a L & N connection point, and the output will be labelled as secondary, giving you the inverted power rating. This is a very expensive way of running machinery as the inverted power is no different in conumption to the single phase.

Does single phase power damage air conditioners?

If the air conditioner is designed for three phase, then it will not run, and could be damaged, by single phase power. Otherwise, no.

Can a 3 phase motor be converted into a single phase motor?

A three-phase motor will not start if one or two phases aren't connected. If while running one or two phases "drop out", it will continue to run for awhile, but will eventually burn out, unless connected to a motor saver.

Can a three phase motor work on single phase power with out burning up?

A three phase motor will not operate on single phase. The motor will run on two phases but will not start. Motors running on just two phases is called single phasing. The line current of the two legs will go high and it is this factor that the motor controller uses to trip the contactor to open the circuit and isolate the motor from the power source.

How do you calculate power consumption of 3 phase airconditioner unit?

From its nameplate data.

How does rotary phase converter work?

A rotary phase converter is a device that changes single phase electrical power into multiple phase electrical power.
