I'd use buckshot or deershot... or a brick, if it's a particularly stupid animal.
Small game like squirrels, rabbits and rodents.
Yes, must be .24 caliber or larger for hunting big game. See link below-
There is no legal definition of "assault rifle". If you mean an AR15 style rifle, then it depends on the rifle, and what you are hunting. An AR15 firing .223/ 5.56mm can be used for small game. For big game, the rifle may not be capable of holding more than 6 rds of ammo, and must be .24 caliber or larger, with 1000 ft lbs of energy at 100 yards. The AR15 in .223 will not meet those standards. A larger AR, such as the AR10, could meet them. No fully automatic firearms may be used for hunting.
A Rifle that exceds 270 grain and larger then .30 calibre A Rifle that exceds 270 grain and larger then .30 calibre General usage, 30-06 and above. Often includes high velocity .22 like .22-250. The power of a rifle is measured in foot pounds, 1/2 M Vsquared where velocity is feet per second m is mass in pounds. Much larger rifles like .375 H&H mag are usually called big game
They vary, but generally, for hunting birds and small game like rabbits, shotguns are used. The most common shotgun is the 12 gauge. For larger animals like deer and elk, a rifle like a 30-06 is common. For very large animals like elephants or buffalo, many people use 50 caliber rifles.
the 270 win. is an excellent gun for any species of big game in north America enough to put down a bear or elk but able to make those long shots on whitetails and mullies. good all purpose gun. also good for varmits
Sorry- no one answer- you did not say what you are hunting. You can get a decent used .22 rifle for about $100. Rifles for larger game may start at about $200, and go up from there. Depends on what you want to buy- like cars.
Firearms that use rimfire cartridges, such as the .22 Short or Long rifle, small caliber handguns such as the .25 and .32, rifles that use pistol cartridges, etc. These are cartridges that would not generally be suitable for hunting deer and larger animals, usually grouped as "big game".
Animals as big as the Grizzly Bear have been shot with a .22 rifle. I do not recommend it, since the bear is likely to eat you. .22 rimfire should be limited to small game in the rabbit-size category.
Which game do you like best ? What is your preferred game ?
Shin Sung Career Dragon Slayer. 50 Caliber, Sam Yang Reclusive .357 cal or Sam Yang Dragon Claw .50 Caliber. Any one of there are suitable for larger game.
Up to 1,000 yards, though it will cleanly kill most game animals at any distance that you can place the bullet on target. Bert H.
