The outdoor unit only runs in the AC mode(unless it is a heat pump). If you have the system off and the fan on, the outdoor unit should not be on. You can run the indoor fan only without harming the system.
There are a few ways to decipher the American Standard model number on one of their AC units. The model number is located on a placard on the unit itself. There is also listings of this information on the American Standard website by looking up the specific unit name.
The AC unit is fully controlled by the contactor. If the unit turns off by thermostat control such as setting tstat to off, the contactor is ok. The thermostat could be the problem though. yeah i understand that but when i say old unit i mean its so old that the thermostat only have two cables the red one and the white one! the auto and cont the unit has it in the indoor unit!!!
Low pressure for R 410 is 118 psi
The refrigerant pressure for a residential air conditioner is around 75 psi for low side input and 260 psi for high side output. If the unit is turned off the pressure will be about equal to the ambient temperature.
static 120 psi running 65 psi
If the ac is off and pressure is above 120 psi, then turn unit on,it should equalize...if the ac is on and above 120 psi,it is OVERCHARGED It could also mean that the compressor is not running. What is the high side pressure? >>>>>. If you are certain the compressor is operating, the valves are probably bad. A low amperage reading vs the nameplate FLA/RLA will confirm this.
pressurre on low side should be be 70 psi and on high side depending on unit should be between 250 and 350
TThe low pressure AC switch is a 3-way pressure switch in the low-side refrigerant line. It is open when the pressure is approximately below 27 psi and above 350 psi and closed when the pressures are in between.
Suction pressure
R22 and R410 are common.
recharge gauge shows pressure of 70 psi
It runs when th e coolant temperature reaches about 212 or when ac pressure is about 300 psiIt runs when th e coolant temperature reaches about 212 or when ac pressure is about 300 psi
The high pressure side.
A pressure switch a valve that shuts off the unit when the pressure is to low or to high
