What is the price of a window 7?

With its release in 2009, Windows 7 gained national spotlight as one of the greatest operating systems Microsoft has ever built. A consumer can get this magnificent operating system, which was like getting a brand new computer, for only $119.99. What a deal! Or was it? Microsoft Windows Engineers and Marketing Team just could not get enough money; or at least that is what it seemed liked.

To understand the basics for an excellent operating system, we need to go back to Windows 2000 and Windows XP. With both of these operating systems Windows Engineers worked hard on making sure the users cost would stay down during the upgrade. The engineers ensured that previous software releases would be compatible with the new operating system. This allowed users to enjoy their favorite computer program to be used on their "new" computer. The Windows operating system could also be used on up to 3 computers, making the operating systems easily affordable to large families.

During Windows 7's premiere to the world a version, known as Windows 7: Family Pack, was released. This allowed users to purchase a copy of Windows 7: Home Premium for up to 3 computers. Microsoft kept this product off the advertising pages, hoping consumers would purchase Windows 7 retail version, only allowing users to install their product on one computer and purchasing additional copies for other computers. Shortly after Windows 7's release, the Family Pack was "killed". Microsoft had stopped manufacturing the software and sold what was left in stock. This came at one of the worst times. During the pull of Microsoft Windows 7: Family Pack, the United States was in a horrible economic crisis. Consumers slowly decreased on purchasing item they "want" and focused on items they "needed". Microsoft believed they were at the top of the world and selfishly wanted the consumer's money. Microsoft believed that their product, Windows 7, was a "need" not a "want". Consumers who wanted to run the Windows 7 Operating System on 3 computers would have to pay $359.97 for the Operating System, opposed to the Family Pack price of $149.99.

With Windows 7, many programs and hardwares have to be upgraded. The Dell Dimension 3000 is a desktop computer built in 2005. It came pre-installed with Windows XP and runs smoothly with gaming devices. This computer is not all that old. However, to install Windows 7, a user would have to purchase a Video Card upgrade costing approximately $45. This $45 card will not support the power supply that came with the computer. An upgrade of approximately $50 is needed to allow a user to run this Video Card.

The bottom line is, this innocent $119.99 operating system comes out to be more than most people can afford at this time. Currently I have spent $384.98 for the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system and add-on accessories needed to have the operating system work properly for two (2) computers.

So, what will Microsoft's Windows have in store for us next? At this time, who knows? Hopefully they regain control and do what is best for the users, keep the cost down!
