Lysosomes recycle protein and other waste products created from damaged or worn out organelles within a cell. Lysosomes can be said to be a cell's digestive system. Lysosomes are organelles that contain digestive enzymes They digest excess or worn out organelles, food particles, and engulfed viruses or bacteria. The membrane surrounding a lysosome prevents the digestive enzymes inside from destroying the cell. Lysosomes fuse with vacuoles and dispense their enzymes into the vacuoles, digesting their contents. They are built in the Golgi apparatus. The name lysosome derives from the Greek words lysis, which means dissolution or destruction, and soma, which means body. They are frequently nicknamed "suicide-bags" or "suicide-sacs" by cell biologists due to their role in autolysis. Lysosomes were discovered by the Belgian cytologist Christian de Duve in 1949. A lysosome is analogous (in function) to a human digestive system.

What does the lysosome function?

The function of a lysosome is to break down materials and some other things in the cell so that they are in a form that the cell can use.

What does the lysosome contain to carry out its function?

they digest it

Function of Golgi apparatus and lysosome?

There may be two possibilities of a lysosome(in function) after it releases from the golgi apparatus as primary lysosome,It can fuse with the food vacuole to form secondary lysosome and then digest it.second it may fuse with damaged organelle to form secondary lysosome and then it digests it.

What is the primary site of the intracellular digestion?

Something that performs the same function as the lysosome?

Nothing

What is the most primary function of lysosomes?

Lysosomes hold enzymes that were created by the cell. The purpose of the lysosome is to digest things. They might be used to digest food or break down the cell when it dies.

How does lysosome function?

lysosomes produce powerful enzymes which digest proteins

Is movement the function of lysosome?

No, the lysosome is the cell's " stomach " in that it catalyzes used and worn molecules in the cell by fusing with many. A large worn out mitochondria can be broken down into it's constituent parts when the lysosome fuses with it.
