The "W",winter mode button is pressed and you probably put the gear selector lever in position "3". Put selector lever in "D" and press the "E" economy mode button.

Hi All, I have a V40 Esate and having followed all the owners manual procedures getting nowhere was informed by the local dealership that the lights can only be turned off by them as it is a software issue and has to be limked to the Volvo manufacturers to comply with their regulations. NO! They did not have a code box until 1989 Yes they all do. The code box is right in front of the brake booster in the engine compartment on the drivers inner fender well. There is a tester there and a series of blinking lights basically. You will need a manual to decipher the number of blinks.
