By July end, 1945 Japan could not defend itself against an imminent Allied attack against mainland Japan. While Japan was looking for assistance from Soviet Union to arrange a surrender with more favorable terms for Japan, USA dropped atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Soviet Union also in a very bizarre manner declared war on an already beleaguered Japan. These events forces Emperor Hirohito asked Japanese government to agree to allied terms of surrender set in Postdam declaration. Japanese surrender was announced on September 2, 1945.
