In the United States, or at least in this part, once a person gets such a title, he keeps it for life unless he or she tells you otherwise. Thus, once a person is elected Mayor, he retains that title even if the voters fire him in the next election. So you could list him as Mayor John and Suzy Doe. You could have several Mayors at the same time, only one of which would be holding public office. Both Presidents Bushes will be Presidents as long as they live. Neither will ever live in the White House again. Still, each will be addressed as "President Bush."
Use: "The Honorable <name>"
