The Aboriginal Protection Policy was a policy set up in Australia to help "protect" aboriginals. It was felt that Aboriginals were a dying race in Australia and so they needed to be treated like children. The act of treating them like children is referred to as paternalism. This policy of Protection followed on from Charles Darwin's theory of evolution, it was felt that they had not evolved up to the standard of the white Australians.
Under this policy Aboriginals were placed on "reserves" where they were to eat, stay and sleep. They had to gain permission to leave the reserve at any point.
Children were also placed in Missions, where the church taught Aboriginal children
