Proximal means closer to the origin of the limb or finger. Medial means the inside aspect, closer to the midline. So the proximal medial aspect of the proximal phalanx is the "inside" edge of the first bone of the toe, closer to the beginning of the toe than to the end.

What is the bones in toe?

The big toe proper has 2 bones. Every other toe has 3 bones. The big toe on each foot has two bones called phalanges: a distal phalanx at the end and a proximal phalanx that connects to a metatarsal bone in the middle foot. All other toes have 3 phalanges, with a medial phalanx between the other two toe bones.

What is big toe bone called?

The big toe bone is called the hallux. It is the innermost (most medial) toe of the foot, and is made up of the proximal and distal phalanges.

Another name for the foot bones?

There are 26 bones in each foot, not including the 2 sesamoid bones located underneath the first metatarsal head. starting from number 1 (heel) move to number 17 (last bone of each toe not including big toe) you might want to google these bones to see in x-ray or picture where exactly they are if you are unsure 1 Calcaneus 2 Talus 3 Navicular 4 Medial cuneiform 5 Intermediate cuneiform 6 Lateral cuneiform 7 Cuboid 8 First metatarsal 9 Second metatarsal 10 Third metatarsal 11 Fourth metatarsal 12 Fifth metatarsal 13 Proximal phalanx of great toe 14 Distal phalanx of great toe 15 Proximal phalanx of second toe 16 Middle phalanx of second toe 17 Distal phalanx of second toe

What are the bones of the toes called?

The bones of the visibly independent Toes (or Digits) are called the Phalangees (sig. Phalanx). The are named 1 to 5 starting at the Hallucis (big toe) and ending at the pinky toe. There are three boned in each digit (apart from the hallucis); the Proximal Phalanxe attaches to the Metatarsal of the toe; the Distal Phalanx is the tip of the toe (the one that hase the tow nai over it); the Middle Phalanxe is in between and is the oe mising from the hallucis. The joints between the proximal and middle and the middle and distal phalangees are Synnovial Hinge type and so only alow flextion and extension. The Joints between the metatarsals and the proximal phalangees are Synnovial Condyloid and so also allow some Abduction and Adductiuon. The metatarsals re usually considered to be foot bones but they could also be said to be toe bones. They are long thin bones that lie within the foot and do not appear to be separate from the outside.
