The punishment for falsely pulling a fire alarm varies from state to state. It also depends on what the circumstance was for pulling the alarm. For example, young children who do not know that it was a crime generally don't get punished. However, pulling the alarm as a prank could land you with a decent-sized fine (in the thousands) or could even get you booked in jail if there were extra malicious motives involved such as causing a distraction. In addition, if it took place at a school, suspension or expulsion could be in order. It's not worth it.
The 'act' of setting off the false alarm could be a municipal ordnance violation or misdemeanor offense under state statute. However, if someone is injured during the evacuation, or injured during the response of fire/rescue units, it could quickly escalate and the perpetrator could be charged with a much more serious offense.
Varies place to place. Usually a fine, followed by fines and jail time for repeat offences.
