The purpose of keeping the archieve is to keep the backup of important data, which can be either referenced in future or can be queried when needed.
Few important applications of data archieving -
1. A very good example of archieving data is like we use winzip, winrar softwares in our personal computers. So that we can collate related data.
2. Usually we archieve data file on servers, to a backup repositories so that in case of emergencies or in case data loose, we can get fresh copy of data which was important.
3. In some organizations, which are processing data in bulk regulary, but that data is not frequently used, that data they archieves so that it can be used in future if needed, it saves costly space on servers.
JAR files (Java ARchive) allows aggregating many files into one, it is usually used to hold Java classes in a library. i.e. Math.jarWAR files (Web Application aRchive) stores XML, java classes, and JavaServer pages for Web Application purposes.EAR files (Enterprise ARchive) combines JAR and WAR files to make a combined archive for Enterprise Applications.
can't open rar files at all. receive archive error message
A program that can make .zip files. You can download archive files with it and then extract them.
You can make an archive using winrar or other program. When you install winrar, you mark the files--> right butoon--> add to archive, and they`ll be ready :)
Easy - CD to the directory with the files and folders, and do: zip -r foo *
You can try to recover your archive files with Easy Drive Data Recovery software. It uses unique modern algorithms to recover files that other software either recovers incorrectly or is unable to detect.
To use the archive attribute (A), back up files telling the archiving application (WinZip, etc.) to clear the archive attribute of the files it stores copies of. Whenever one of those files is modified in the future, or whenever a new file is created, its archive attribute is set. Therefore, on subsequent backups, you can have the application back up only files that have the archive attribute set (and clear the archive attribute while doing so). That way you don't waste time and drive space backing up files that haven't changed since the last time they were backed up.
The Java Archive (JAR) file format enables you to bundle multiple files into a single archive file and Typically a JAR file contains the class files and auxiliary resources associated with applets and applications
You don't 'run' them, they are an archive of compressed files. You need a program like WINRAR to open them.
In computing, an archive file is a computer file that is composed of one or more files along with metadata. Archive files are used to collect multiple data files together into a single file for easier portability and storage, or simply to compress files to use less storage space.
Incremental backups and differential backups do not set the archive bit. Instead, they rely on the current state of the archive bit to determine which files have been changed since the last full backup. When an incremental backup is performed, it only backs up files that have changed since the last backup of any type, while a differential backup backs up all files that have changed since the last full backup, without altering the archive bit status of those files.
