However, if your waistband elastic is stitched in place all the way around, as is the case with many ready made garments, you will have to remove all the stitching first before adding more elastic, remembering to allow approximately 1/2" of overlap on both ends; carefully pin the elastic back in place and resew in place with an elastic stitch that will not break but stretch with the elastic.
