On drum brakes the backing plate is what all the brake parts are mounted on. The springs, shoes, and wheel cylinder are all mooted to a stationary backing plate. On disc brakes the friction material or pad is glued or riveted to the baking plate.

The same way you bleed brakes on a newer car, bleeder valves are in back of the wheel cylinders on the backing plate.
More than likely your brake pads are worn down to the backing plate and need to be replaced.
When they are wore out. Usually when the friction material is thinner than the metal backing plate.
Bleeder screw for clutch is at the slave cylinder, on the bell housing of the Transmission. The bleeder for the brakes is on the calipers, and on the backing plate of the rear drum brakes
do you have 4 wheel disc !!! if so look on the backing plate of the rear axel it adjusts like drum brakes through a hole in the plate
Free Backing brakes have a unique design that moves the front brake shoe away from the brake drum when you are backing up. This allows the trailer to roll free when backing up, but this type of brake has no braking power while backing, therefore, your tow vehicle's brakes carry the entire load.

The backing plate on a lathe is used to mount the chuck to it and is the adapter to the lathe spindle.
The sensor for the rear wheels are located on the brake shoe backing plate if you have drum brakes on the rear. The front brake sensor is located next to the caliper. The same if you have rear disc brakes.
Remove wheel if disc brakes: Remove caliper mounting bolts and slide caliper out of the way. If drum brakes: remove brake drum Remove brake line Hub assembly should be secured by 4 bolts You may have to separate backing plate from hub assembly, by supporting backing plate and striking hub assembly sharply w/hammer
