∙ 9y agoWith the usual processes, you get some carbon into the iron. And the amount of carbon is very important for the final quality of the iron/steel you're trying to make. By blowing oxygen through them melt you can remove carbon from the iron/steel, and get better control of what kind of metal you're trying to make.
