Endorphins
The brain produces endorphins which act as painkillers. The body produces them in response to stressful events such as unavoidable electric shocks, sudden injury, or when pregnant women go into labour
To protect your body from injury.
I have had this before when I was living in Africa, my body was being attacked my microscopic mites and the body could work out where they were. The mites were under the first few layers on skin on my hand, my whole body was itching. My immune system felt it was under attack, scratching stimulates the release of endorphins. These are naturally occurring opiates which block pain sensation. We release a flood of endorphins to block the pain of the initial injury, while the scratching only injures our skin only a little more. The gain from the endorphins thus outweighs the loss from the slight injury.
The purpose of a safety device is to reduce the danger of injury.
An intentional injury was done on purpose and an unintentional injury was an accident or the result of thoughtlessness.
There are certain endorphins that are released during vigorous exercise. These endorphins are called endogenous opioid peptides. These endorphins are also present in love.
