People, especially Catholics, go to Mass for several reasons:

>It is Christ's wish that we eat His Body and Blood and this is received normally at Mass.

>The Mass is the sacrifice of Calvary done again though in an unbloody manner; Catholics flock to it to better receive the graces of the crucifixion which are properly given through the Mass

>Holy Mass is the most powerful Catholic prayer since Christ is there both as priest and victim

>Holy Mass is the most perfect prayer, offering as it does the four ends of all prayer towards God: adoration, Thanksgiving, petition and reparation

>Sunday is a holy day of obligation, which means all Catholics, who are able, must attend Mass. One may attend on weekdays according to availability and piety.

to give praise to our Lord

Roman Catholic AnswerFor many reasons: the Mass is the re-presentation of Our Blessed Lord's Passion and Death on Calvary in which He makes the graces from that available to us. At Mass we are actually witnessing the sacrifice of Our Blessed Lord. Primarily we celebrate It because He commanded us to do so. Secondarily, we celebrate It as It is the way in which we are saved.

They go to mass to take part of the holy sacrifice. In a Catholic mass, the priest says the words of Jesus during the last supper (The first holy communion).

"Take this, all of you, and eat it: this is my body which will be given up for you... Take this, all of you, and drink from it: this is the cup of my blood, the new and everlasting covenant. It will be shed for you and for all so that sins may be forgiven. Do this in memory of me."

Catholics believe that after consecration, the bread and wine becomes the body and blood of Christ. We believe that there is the true prescence of Christ in the body and blood. There are many miracles that prove this.

We want to take part in the death of Christ to be risen up with Christ, mass is like the events before His death and His death in a nut shell.

Not all Christians go to mass. Mass is associated with Catholics. Other Christian denominations have other kinds of services. Christians go to these various services to worship God and remember Jesus. Mass focuses particularly on the Eucharist, the body of Christ. Receiving the Eucharist or Communion, is one of the sacraments. Mass honours the Last Supper on Holy Thursday and also the offering of Christ on Calvary. Some of the services of other denominations also have similar themes and can be similar to mass, but many are very different.
