Depends on what type of joint.

There are 3 types of joints:

1) Fibrous joints are synarthrotic, or immovable, joints; sutures are fibrous joints, the function of sutures is to bind the skull bones together.

2)Cartilaginous joints allow slight movements. But some do not provide movements at all, such as the sternocostal, which attaches the rib to the manubrium.

3) Synovial joints are freely movable joints, it allows your body to move freely, such as your knee joints. Most of the joints in our body are synovial joints, or otherwise our body will be very stiff.
