The Big Stick Policy was a policy followed by US president Theodore Roosevelt. The policy was based on the principle of use of intelligent forethought to avert crisis but use force well in advance of actual crisis. Teddy Roosevelt used this policy effectively and successfully many times during his two terms. Some of the examples are Isthmus canal issue, anthracite coal strike and Russo-Japan peace efforts for which he even won Nobel Peace Prize in 1905.
