For years I have asked numerous so called experts and been given lots of different replies. Most state that the felt helps the collar to maintain its shape. Personally I don't understand this response because all the womens jackets I've seen (including some very expensive designer jackets) have never had felt under the collar. If it was needed then surely it would be on both mens and womens jackets. As it stands it looks like a gimmick designed to imply quality.
