The quality of a dot matrix printer depends on whether it has 9 or 24 pins. Compared to an inkjet or laser, the quality can be less. It rather depends on what the dot matrix will be used for? As an impact printer, it is mostly used to print through the pages of multi-paged, continuous, listing paper, as used in many offices. Such paper needs a tractor feed (pins on a roller engaging holes punched along the edges of the paper), and can be left unattended while printing takes place. If rubber rollers are used instead, printing can be done on A4 single-sheet paper from a tray, or hand-fed on A4 multi-pages to produce a top copy and a carbon copy.
