Standard when ordering straight run chicks is 50% male to female.
Straight run means un-sexed birds. It is like a lottery, you may get more cockerels than pullets on one order of 25 and the opposite way on another.
If your birds are for egg laying only you would be best to order the slightly more costly pre-sexed birds.
Male and female have sex. Female lays egg(s). Eggs hatch = Chicks
Female emus have no part in looking after the chicks. They only lay the eggs. The male builds the nest, incubates the eggs and raises the chicks.
The female will incubate the eggs for a few weeks, then when they have hatched the female will find food and then regurgitate it for the chicks. The male sparrow has very little to do with the life of the chicks. He may just go away after his first mating and go and mate with another female.
The male emu builds a nest and incubates the eggs laid by the female. He also raises the chicks.
A hen is female and a cockerel is a young male.
This is decided by genetics. The animal stock used to both fertilize (male) the eggs and produce (female) the eggs will determine the color of the progeny.

Yes. Your female cockatiel may lay an egg however without a male it will not be fertilised and therefore a dud.
Both the male and the female do. The parents of the eggs share the setting keeping the eggs warm. They both share in the raising of the chicks once they hatch.
