It is quite possible that he contracts for a certain number of episodes per year since playing the character on 'Homicide: Life on the Street'. Shooting a series every week is a grueling schedule, and if you don't need the highest possible salary and merely prefer a good living, and your image doesn't require top billing and a star profile, then you can be selective. Mr. Belzer has other interests and talents and has done many different TV roles, movies, radio, and stand up comedy.
The role of Olivia Bensen, of Law and Order SVU, is played by actress Mariska Hargitay.
From Starpulse Entertainment News Blog dated 12/11/07 Richard Belzer does not know why his character is being cut from the show. Apparently, he is slowly being phased out. Fans, however, are trying to get him back on by protesting online. As of season 13 premier on 9/21/11, Munch (Richard Belzer) is back on duty! Christopher Meloni was not able to come to terms with a contract and he is no longer in the cast. They're introducing two new SVU officers, Det. Amanda Rollins played by Kelli Giddish and Det. Nick Amaro played by Danny Pino. The new people are very 'Hollywood' types, smoother and more attractive real working folks, which producers believe is mandatory for success. Munch and Tutuola are among my favorites but they're not 'pretty enough'; in real life, one of them would be moved to the lead when Stabler left.
Because he retired in real life.
Actor John Tesh has no credits for any of the Law and Order series.
No real reason was given by Diane Neal or Wolf Productions why she left SVU at the end of season 9. However, she did return for season 12 and 13. I thought she looked pregnant in the last season!
The only SVU character named Hunter that I can find is in the episode 'Deliquent' (original air date 5/11/11); the character's name was Hunter Mazelon, a teenage predator falsely accuses Stabler of sexual assault. Hunter was played by Sterling Beaumon, best known for his recurring role in the series 'Lost' as the character Young Ben.

Some say that the website Second Life is very similar. Perhaps someone on the SVU writing staff used the site or that their game, Another Universe, is generic enough to coincidentally seem the same.
No.
SVU detectives investigate sex crimes and crimes against children.
