There is no "real" person from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a fictional story, and Leatherface (who was played by Gunnar Hansen in the original 1973 film) is a fictional character.
The moviemakers got the idea for the Leatherface character from the serial killer Ed Gein. That doesn't mean the movie is based on a true story. Just because a writer gets an idea for a story from real life, doesn't mean the story is based on the truth.
A book/movie that is "based on a true story" is one that strives to portray the truth as accurately as possible. No such attempt was made with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Absolutely everything about it is fiction, except for two, possibly three things: Ed Gein wore the skin of his victims, gutted them and hung them up in his house, and MAY have eaten some of their remains.
