You should only use Harley transmission fluid from the dealership. It's engineered by Harley for their transmissions.
On my 2004 fxsti softail standard it's on the right side behind the lower framerail towards the rear not far from the rear brake light switch.
the best thing to do is get a manual it will help you with that problem and more in the future. also good for specs. You will also need some good Torque wrenches and sockets. With the correct tools it is an easy job.
I don't know why it happens, but I am very happy to hear that someone ELSE besides me has this situation. I guess we are not nuts after all.
Softail oil caps cannot be locked, and to my knowledge nobody makes one that does. If you're concerned with vandalism, my recommendation is to install an alarm that uses Doppler radar perimeter protection, which alerts you if anyone gets too close to your bike. It's fully adjustable for distance.
Speedo sensor is bad. Located on top of the transmission, right hand side.
The Softail Deluxe was introduced in the summer of 2004 as a 2005 model. Its model designation, FLSTN, is the same designation as for the Softail Nostalgia, originally introduced as a 1993 model (hence the "N" at the end).
Well on my 2004 softail Pushing the remote button 1 time set the alarm and pushing the twice deactivates the alarm
harley has their own suggested fluid. however many of us use the same oil in the engine, the tranny and the primary. 20/50
