Surah Alaq (96 # in Quran) was the first surah reveled to Prophet Muhammad PBUH in Cave Hira.

Surah alaq is considered to be the imporatant surah because it contains the first five verses revealed to the prophet muhammad (pbuh) it describes the importance of knowledge . The verses of surah alaq deals with allah's two special attributes that includes the creation of man and bestowing knowledge upon him. It further explains that allah perfected man through the various stages of development and then enabled him to read and write so that they may prosper . We human beings are blessed by our creator amazing .... As mentioned in quran :" then which of the blessings of your lord will you deny "
The first revelations of the holy Quran were the first five verses of surat Al-alaq (The clot). Those verses were revealed in the cave of Hira, Makkah.
The first lines of Sura Iqra were revealed at first in the Cave of Hira to the last Prophet of Isam Hazrat Muhammad (May peace be upon him).
The first revelation ayah was the first five verses of Surah (chapter) Al-Alaq:"Iqra bismi rabbikalla dhi khalaq. Khalaqal insana min alaq. Iqra WA rabbukal akram. Alladhi 'allama bil qalam. 'Allamal insana malam ya'lam, "which means"Read in the name of your Lord who created, created man from a clot. Read, for your Lord is most Generous, Who teaches by means of the pen, teaches man what he does not know." (96: 1-5).
The first surah that was revealed was Surah 'Alaq. Initially first five verses were revealed followed by a hiatus. These verses were revealed in cave of Hira. Angel Jibraeel (Gabriel) came to Prophet in form of human said, "Iqra" meaning "read". Prophet said, "I can't read." Angel Gabriel said again, "Iqra.". Prophet replied the same. After three attempts, Gabriel squeezed Prophet and recited the first five verses.
