Excessive daytime sleepiness can be a symptom of a sleep disorder disease. The treatment is usually simple. The diagnosis can be arrived at after a sleep study. Sleep studies are either a full polysomnogram or a simple at home 5 to 6 lead sleep screening. If one is diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea the usual treatment is a CPAP machine. Unfortunately the compliance rate for CPAP machines after one year is only 75%. A new treatment option is available that works great for mild to moderate cases. This option is a dental appliance that helps keep the jaw positioned in the forward position. This simply opens the patient's airway, which allows better oxygen saturation in the blood and consequently the brain, which translates to a more restful night sleep. R. Alston DDS

Apnea is not a "disease"! Apnea is a symptom of either a condition or a disease. Apnea is a temporary lack of breathing during sleep or during altered consciousness (such as during pre or post surgery). Sleep apnea or obstructive apnea can have numerous causes, including as a reaction to respiratory depressant medications (example, narcotics, even when given in the hospital), illegal drug use, obesity, throat problems, or a co-existing lung disease, acute illness, etc.The symptom of apnea has nothing to do with smoking. As to mouth, most oral infections such as yeast (which causes oral thrush) or viral infections (like Herpes Cold Sores) have nothing to do with smoking.
Nausea can be a symptom of a heart attack.
Symptoms initially include reduced appitite, high fever, rapid and shallow respiration, depression, and a moist cough. During the later stages of the disease, cattle lose weight and have labored breathing.
Excessive salivation is sometimes a problem that occurs during pregnancy.
Relaxation therapy can induce sleepiness, and some individuals may fall asleep during a session.
