Salmonella is not a disease it is the name of a microbe that causes salmonellosis. It causes typhoid fever and food poisoning. It can be picked up by eating raw, undercooked or frequently reheated food. It can also be found in uncooked chicken or in pet reptiles. It is usually treated with chloramphenicol. However, many strains have been become resistant to chloramphenicol and a vaccine is being developed.
