The Marines are Marines. The Army has Army Special Forces AKA Green Berets.
Its better to join the Green Berets as a Army Solider because you will get more experience and have a better chance of making it through the selection process and training. Civilians can not join the Green Berets. The GB's are Soldiers, not civilians.
There are roughly 4500 estimated Green Beret soldiers. it is said that the Green Berets make up less than 1% of the US Army's population.

Special Forces wear Green Berets Rangers wear Tan Berets Airborne wears Maroon Berets Rest of the Army wears Black Berets. But they don't really mean anything.

The SF are still US Army/24/7.
Training civilians and foreign militaries is a significant part of what the Green Berets do, however, they do go on combat missions as well. The United States Army Special Forces have been active since 1952.
