Establishes delivery priorities for different communication types in a net work
If you want some more information on communication try checking out 3GC Group. They define convergence communication and the role of QOS in a converged network.

to ensure that real-time traffic is not delayed
QoS prioritizes network traffic using defined rules. Some application will have more resources (browsers, messengers etc.) supplied through QoS while others will be suppressed.

QoS mapping for a wireless network - Mapping of QoS names of one protocol (e.g GSM GPRS) to the names of another protoco (e.g. WAP 3GPP.) More genrally, mapping of one QoS lassification to another.

Designing a network depends on many issues such as QoS requirement, traffic condition, topology etc.

Quality of Service (QoS) is a technique to manage how well the network is performing. It uses service metrics to figure out where problems and bottlenecks might be in a network and measures transmission times, re-transmits, and other measurable qualities in a network. There are some protocols and networks that require a high degree of functioning, and the way to tell whether or not the network is functioning properly is by sampling what the network is doing. This is the purpose of QoS.
In congestion control, the load on a network is prevented from exceeding the capacity. Quality of service refers to the characteristics that a flow of data seeks to attain. If there is good congestion control, then the QoS is also good and vice versa.
Expedited Forwarding
QoS is Quality of Service. Basically it prioritizes VOIP calls.
