Best Answer

To make money for the people who own a full or partial interest in that particular media.

This is usually accomplished by either selling advertising space (such as this web site), or by selling subscriptions in one form or another. Sometimes, both techniques are used.

Consequently, the truth is often butchered in the process. The reality of an inconvenient truth, is that it is then changed to what will sell more ads or more subscriptions, so keep that in mind as you consume your facts from media sources.

This is not always entirely the media's fault, though of course, it is totally their responsibility. By being consumers that demand to be entertained in the ways that we enjoy, we force our "suppliers" to give us what we seem to be demanding, or else they go out of business, (or at least, suffer various sorts of losses from time to time).

If you don't punish people for telling the truth, then there is actually some chance that you will hear the truth, at least, from time to time.
