The root of Jehovah's Witnesses is Jehovah God, The Almighty, The Creator. That's why the name: 'Jehovah's' Witnesses. The apostrophe 's' means 'belonging to'. We belong to Jehovah God. We witness for Jehovah God, and about Jehovah God.

We have no clergy / laity distinction among us; thus no paid clergy.

We do not give reverential honor to any human; not calling anyone 'Reverend, Pastor, Father,' etc. We do not even worship Christ Jesus. We worship only Jehovah God.

This is all quite different from other religions who are named after other people and other things; ie Lutherans are named after Luther (a human); Baptists are named after John the Baptist (a human); Penticostals are named after an 'event' (Penticost); Seventh Day Adventists are named after another event (the Sabbath every 7 days); etc etc.

To use the questioner's illustration of 'the root': Christ Jesus I would say is the 'trunk'. And then there are all the various branches, twigs, and leaves. We help distribute spiritual 'fruit' to others; We help to provide spiritual 'greenery' and shade for others. (Psalm 1:3)
