I don't think it is a one answer fits all kind of problem. Some see some future use and never get around to use all of it. Someare emotionally so overwhelmed that they can not manage to sort through stuffand make decisions and deal with memories. Some I think might start as a rebellion in childhood against an overly perfectionistic parent sort of lkike passive aggression. Some seem to get some feeling of emotional support from the stuff having been denied it by others. I don't think all hoarders are ocd but some probably are. A one fit defination root and solution is probably more harm than help.
