During Ramadan Muslims ask forgiveness for past sins, pray for guidance and help in refraining from everyday evils, and try to purify themselves through self-restraint and good deeds. we do it for the sake of Allah (swt) and it teaches us to refrain.

we shouldn't really do haram things in this month and that we do halal things because our sins will be multiplied
