it is the belt by the alternator belt
You don't repair a serpentine belt. You replace the worn or broken belt with a new one.
Specifically, where and what do I do to tension either belt? Thanks!
what engine size? 2.0 soc does not have serpentine belts, has 2 serpentine timng belts. need engine size to help more.
according to Mitsubishi service manual on my car which is a 2001 4cil galant is every 60000 miles, yours shoul be around the same ..
where can you find a free diagram for putting a air conditioning belt on a 2001 Montero sport Mitsubishi?
Are you sure it's a serpentine? From the manual, a 1999 V-6 Galant should have 2 drive belts. 1 should control both the power steering and water pumps and the other is for the alternator and A/C compressor.
Changing the serpentine belt on a 97 Mitsubishi Diamante is a fairly easy task. All you need to do is get a wrench and loosen the tension pulley and pull of the serpentine belt.

The 2.4 liter - 4 cylinder and the 3.0 liter - V6 engines in a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant are both INTERFERENCE ENGINES , according to Gates ( they make timing belts etc . )
Find the tensioner assembly, get a ratchet or breaker bar and a socket which will fit the nut, turn it counterclockwise. That'll create enough slack to allow you to remove the serpentine belt.
