California in the mid-1960s on Orchard Avenue in a large university town.
The setting of "The Egypt Game" is a neighborhood in California where a group of children create their own secret rituals and ceremonies inspired by ancient Egypt. They gather in an abandoned yard to act out their fantasies and adventures in a meticulously constructed Egyptian environment.
Mostly all over the USA but in the beginning London.
The book starts in England and then goes to Egypt while they are training, and then it goes to the USA where they find the Red Pyramid, and finally it goes back to England.
In "The Egypt Game," the exposition introduces the characters, setting, and main conflict, which is the mystery surrounding the disappearance of April Hall's father. The conflict arises when April and her friends create their own ancient Egyptian society for their Egypt game in the storage yard behind the Professor's shop.
Most likely , the novel The Egypt Game has many realistic and true facts about ancient Egypt, but is placed in a setting of a fictional/imagined world created by 6 children. I am not entirely sure if the novel was based on games played with friends in the author's childhood.
