Once it leaves the stock bottle in the pharmacy a required expiration date of 1 year is placed on the prescription bottle. However, the actual expiration date is probably at least 2 years from the date it was dispensed at the pharmacy. I can't tell you specifically without the original bottle but that's based off my experience with the drug. Taking this particular medication if it is expired will not be harmful to the individual but may show reduced potency and give less of a clinical effect when taken. For example it is possible you would see a decreased reduction in cholesterol if the medication is well past its expiration date. If you are ever in doubt call your pharmacist for their suggestion.
