photosnthesis is a process producers use to make theyre own food

  • happens only in producers
  • happens in chlorplasts
  • only happens during daylight

requires:

  1. sun
  2. carbon dixoxide
  3. water

produces:

  1. sugar (glucose)
  2. oxygen

respiration is a process that consumers use to release energy from the food they eat

  • happens in all living things
  • begins in the cytoplasm & ends in the mitochondria
  • can happen any time

requires:

  1. food (glucose)
  2. oxygen

produces:

  1. lots of energy
  2. carbon dioxide
  3. water

fermentation is a process that releases energy from food when ther is not enough oxygen for respiration to hapen

  • happens in cytoplasm
  • only happens in consumers

requires:

  1. food

produces:

  1. less energy
  2. lactic acid
  3. alcohol
  4. carbon dioxide

this process is also used to make bread, cheese, yogurt, and Alcoholic Beverages.

respiration is almost exactly opposite photosynthesis and the same as fermentation eccept fermentation doesnt use oxygen.

In terms of chemistry, photosynthesis is an endothermic reaction and cellular respiration is an exothermic reaction. Photosynthesis is the process by which plants 'make food', the products of this reaction are glucose and oxygen. Cellular respiration, anaerobic and aerobic, occurs in all living organisms and is not unique to plants. This is when cells use glucose to carry out life functions. During cellular respiration, liquid water and carbon dioxide gas are formed. When a person exercises, the process of cellular respiration is quite obvious- during vigorous exercise, a person will sweat(liquid water) and their breathing rate will accelerate(increased production of carbon dioxide)

Both play a role in respect of energy. Thais the similarity. The major difference is cellular respiration gives out the energy and photosynthesis traps the energy given out by the sun.
