Sperm within the testicle itself are not capable of fertilizing an ovum on their own. They complete the maturation process in the epididymis.
Sperm cells have an immature stage in the testes and maturation occurs as the sperm move through the testicular system. There can be multiple reasons for ejaculate to contain immature sperm cells. The mechanical reason is high frequency of intercourse. Another reason for failure would occur in the epididymis where the Sertoli cells facilitate maturation. Causes can be adult mumps, hormonal issues, drugs/medication, radiation, genetic anomalies and excess heat.
The upper part of the testes where sperm cells are stored until they become matured is called the epididymis. It is a coiled tube where sperm undergo maturation and are stored until they are ready to be ejaculated.
Final maturation of sperm cells occurs in the epididyrhis. The site for sperm maturation is in the epididymis. The testes are used for the production of sperm and testosterone.
Sperm cells are produced in the seminiferous tubules. Toward the lumen of the seminiferous tubules are layers of more and more mature sperm cells.

Its the wonderful thing known as the testicles. The testicles produce sperm and store sperm.Actually, the testicles only produce sperm, they do not store it. Sperm is stored in the epididymis.
Follicle Stimulating Hormone stimulates follicle and egg maturation in females and stimulates sperm production and maturation in males. Therefore low levels of FSH slows spermatogenesis.

The first hormone that is involved in the maturation of the egg and sperm is the gonadotropin - releasing hormone(GnHR). This hormone is secreted by the hypothalamus, and it stimulates release of two gonadotropin hormones released by the pituatury gland. The leutenizing hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). And these two pituatury gland gonadotropins are the key hormones for the maturation of egg and sperm.
The seminiferous tubules are where the sperm cells are created. This is also the place where maturation and transportation of the sperm cells within the male testes.
