In order of least to most, the storage capacities are:

floppy disk, CD, RAM, hard drive.

3.5" HD floppy disks normally have a capacity of 1.44 megabytes. Older disks had less.

CD's used for data storage have a data capacity of about 700 to 900 MB, depending on the type.

Most computers now have a few GB of capacity in RAM.

Typical hard drives now have capacities of hundreds of GB - although terabyte drives are now available too.

Notes:

• Some computers (especially older ones) have very limited ram and may actually have less storage capacity than a floppy disk, but most of them currently have much more.
• When CD's were first introduced, they had more capacity than computer hard drives common at the time.The reverse is now true.
• A single-layer DVD-ROM can hold 4.7 GB of error-protected data, more than 6 CD-ROMs. This exceeds the RAM in many computers.
