The Well Head inside Waulud's Bank at Leagrave Common is the mostly acknowledged source. But the river is also fed by a stream about 2 miles west in Houghton Regis.
The River Lea originates in Marsh Farm, Leagrave, Luton in the Chiltern Hills, and ends in London when it meets the River Thames. The last section of River Lea is known as Bow Creek. It forms the traditional boundary between the counties of Middlesex and Essex.
