Officially there is no general speed limit on the Autobahn, but over the years more and more speed restrictions have been imposed on certain stretches. Depending on the time of day the can be as low as 80kmh (50mph), 100kmh (62.5mph), (120kmh) 75mph.
There is how ever a "Richtgeschwindigkeit" (recommended maximum speed) which is 130 kph (81mph).
See link below for more information.
Parts of the German Autobahn do not have posted speed limits.
Autobahn = motorway Autobahn = freeway
Schnellstraße or Autobahn
An autobahn is a high-speed intercity highway, as present in Germany.
"Freeway" is an English equivalent of "Autobahn."
An Autobahn is basically a German version of a highway. ******** A VERY high speed highway- such as an expressway or an interstate highway.
It is a German motorway
The Autobahn is Germany's superhighway system known for its high-speed limits and efficient design. It is a network of controlled-access highways without a general speed limit, though some sections do have advisory speed limits for safety.
Autobahn is German for "freeway"; the proper name of the autobahn there is Bundesautobahn, meaning "federal motorway".

Germany's autobahn has no speed limit as long as you are not near a city.there isn't one
AnswerAbout a third of the German autobahn Network (BAB) has permanent speed restrictions. Another half has a recommended speed of 130 kph, which means there is no real limit, unless you are involved an accident, in which case you would be partially responsible due to your excessive speed. On the rest of the autobahn, you may drive as fast as the situation allows. If you crash, you were going too fast. Trucks are limited to 80 kph on every German road, including the autobahn. Driving as fast as you want is really only possible very early on Sunday mornings. At most other times there is so much traffic that you won't be able to go any faster than the guy right in front of you. There are some SPEED LIMITS on the AutobahnActually, there are speed limits in Germany. Approximately 70% of the Autobahn are speed limited. When the autobahn is below standard (such as no shoulder, narrow lanes), there are speed limits. During inclement weather, there are speed limits.
