Sorry, I know it would be wonderful to be able to say a few words, wave a wand, sprinkle a few smelly herbs and suddenly become a Wizard. Unfortunately, contrary to what you have seen in movies and on TV or have read in books, that's really not how it happens.
A wizard, as I explain it to my students, is a practitioner of the science of magic.
Many of the wizards I know do this as part of a life long study. Some few have come to the study of magic as part of their spiritual path, but most commonly they practice magic without the trappings of spirituality.
Just to set the record straight, the word wizard is not gender specific, I know both male and female wizards. Nor is it an alternate form of the word witch.
Wizard's Spell Compendium was created in 1996.

You can't turn into a wizard. You are born one or you aren't. Are you?
A Wizard spell is not just a spell so I am trusting you greatly. A Wizard spell an easy one is: EEE--- LLL--- Oh,Oh,Oh! turn this thing and make it sing! You might want to know That Spell makes you Sing! Good luck! PS: It's doesn't work the first time. trust me!

There is no spell that can make you a 'wizard'. Male practitioners of magic also call them selves witches. To be a witch one must have years or knowledge of their craft and have the wisdom to not misuse it
