Sound-alikes or homophones are words that have varying methods of spelling, yet sound the same.
The correct spelling is "onomatopoeia." It is a literary device where a word mimics the sound it represents.
The word sound is both a homograph and a homonym. The spelling and pronunciation for 'sound' does not change with the different meanings: Did you hear that sound? (sound meaning noise) Is he of sound mind? (sound meaning in good condition) Homograph means that the words have the same spelling, but different meaning (regardless of pronunciation). Homonym means that the words have the same spelling, and the same pronunciation, but a different meaning. Therefore all homonyms are homophones.
Some words that sound like "shun" but have a different spelling include "churn", "run", and "sun".
That is the correct spelling of "whistle" (a sound or a noisemaker, or to make sound or music with the lips).
hawn
When you yawn, your mouth makes a sound to releive the joy of yawning.
In texting or IM, you may write *yawns* or use a "sleepy face" if at hand.
Yawning, particularly if you have some congestion due to cold or allergies, helps even out the pressure on both sides of the eardrum. This allows it to operate properly to transmit the sound waves correctly.

Yawning is not a disease.
if rude and yawning are defined as such i don't see any reason why the act of yawning be rude. yawning is physiologic. would urinating and defecating be rude also?
