The standard depth of hanging closet rods is 24 inches. The standard width is usually between 72 to 96 inches. The closet height is generally 84 inches.
You can buy closet rods from quite a few sites online. Amazon would be a great place to start. Here is a link to Amazon's closet rod section: http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&rh=n%3A303680011&page=1
The capacity of the rod depends on what it's made of, how it is installed, its length and mid-support. If you are attaching a rod to the rod that's currently installed, that will add stress to the first rod, so make sure you know the capacity of the original closet rod. Rods that are anchored in the studs are more sturdy. Use solid hardwood rods. Plastic and aluminum rods, often sold in doubling kits, aren't very study.
Tension rods are mainly found in places such as the bathroom or the closet. Tension rods are useful for providing a place for something, like a curtain, to hang from without drilling holes into a wall.
A great shelving and closet organizing system for children around 4 feet tall is the Platnium Kids Closet by Elfa. It features shelves, rods perfect for your little fashion fan.
Have you considered doing a custom closet? If you take your closet measurements to a custom place they can design your closet to be the most efficient use of space by using a combination of shelves and rods.
The rod is pretty much the only standard item.
When those closets are jammed to the hilt, a closet organizer can often reduce the clutter by using the space inside the closet better. All kinds of closet organizers are available and they can be combined to create organization in even the smallest of closets. The different types of organizers can be combined to take advantage of the closet rods and the shelving to increase the efficiency inside a closet. Some of the simplest ways to use closet organizers are to use double rods for shorter items like blouses, shirts, pants, skirts, and shorts. The double rods have hooks on each side that take up little space on the closet rod and are fairly stable. Shoe organizers that sit on the closet floor also create substantially more space in the closet and keep shoes paired together and easy to find. Covered plastic boxes easily sit on shelves or on the closet floor to store clothing that is not used as frequently. If the ceilings are high, there is no limit to the amount of extra shelves that can be added above the closet rods, possibly doubling or tripling the amount of storage space. Choosing the right closet organizer depends on the type of closet. Walk-in closets present more options for organizers, since these closets are more like small rooms than the strip closets. If the doorway is large enough, sometimes a dresser or short bookcase shelving can be used inside a walk-in closet. Strip closets are not nearly as wide, but can be longer and perfect places to hang double rods and use extra wire or wood shelves mounted above the existing shelves. Organizing a closet is easiest by emptying the entire closet and putting whatever kinds of closet organizers are needed inside. Then clothing can be added and organized at the same time. Some people like to organize their closets by season, types of clothing, and colors. This type of organization makes retrieving clothes much faster, since there is a great deal of order inside the closet.
All kinds of closet hardware can be found at the Home Depot store including doors and hinges. One will also find brackets, rods, connector kits and doorknobs.

no unless you change the size of the rods
Generally not. Standard transmissions are for the most part, operated by linkage rods connected to the shifter. These rods push and pull the shift arms on the side of the transmission. Cables are quite common on automatic transmissions, and may in some rare cases be used on standard transmissions, but these are the exceptions, and I know of no current or past applications.
