Springfield
The standard US infantry weapon was the Springfield muzzle loading percussion cap rifle fitted with a ring socket bayonet. Most of the artillery was also of the rifled muzzle loading variety. Cavalry troops used the breech loading Sharps Carbine, plus a sabre, and a percussion cap revolver. Officers also carried a revolver and a sabre in lieu of a rifle.
If you are referring to the U.S.A. Armies standard weapon for infantry it is/was the range of M16 Assault rifles. Now they are being phased out and replaced with M4 Carbines.
Invading with misinformation would not be an appropriate weapon soldiers would use in a fight. Bombs and bullets are why troops are dying. Racists asking foolish questions and not supporting the troops is also a factor.

40,000,000 troops
The Springfield 1903 was the standard weapon of the US servicemen in WW1. However, since it was only produced at Springfield Arsenal ( Rock Island didn't come on line until 1917) only the US Marine Brigade used them. All other US troops were armed with the "U.S. Rifle, Caliber .30, Model of 1917", manufactured by Winchester, Remington, and Eddystone.
There are no US troops presently in Iran (as of May 2008)
